Political Career: Ran for election in 1992 for the seat of Ilford North in 1992. Elected for Barking in 1997. Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee (2002 - 2008), Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Ageing and Older People (2008 - 2015), Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Care for the Elderly (2015 - Present). Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health and Social Care (2010 - 2015).

Biography: Eva Phillips was born in 1957 in Rainham, Essex. She studied Philosophy at Bath before becoming a teacher. During this time she became a fundraiser for Help the Aged (now Age UK) inspired by her mother's battle with dementia. She left education to work with Help the Aged before pursuing a political career.

Under Ed Miliband's leadership she served as Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health and Social Care but declined to continue in the post under Jeremy Corbyn. She voted against Corbyn in the 2016 Vote of No Confidence and supported Angela Eagle's leadership bid.
